Well and truly trumped by Shane Warne. Been forgotten about already while Warne is having stands named after him left right and centre.

Re: Rod Marsh bowled out
Him and Dennis Lillie backed England to win that test , Botham at Headingly?? after we were 500- 1 to win after following on.

Top darts just for that.

Re: Rod Marsh bowled out
Brought his no no nonsense approach, to English cricket as a selector.

Which ironically, culminated in England winning the Ashes at home, for the first time in 20 years, in 2005

Re: Rod Marsh bowled out
Was my cricket childhood watching Dennis Lillee steaming in from the river end at the WACA (now the Lillee Marsh Stand) with Rod Marsh behind the stumps.
Great character of the game in the 70's & 80's and did a lot after that in Australia AND England with their cricket academies and as a selector.

Was a very good attacking batsman in his early years with an average around the mid 30's (good for a keeper in those days) but deteriorated in his later years ... not enough patience.

In the 1977 Centenary Test at the MCG he made 28 (out of 138) & 110 no and took 5 catches (including 4 of the ICONIC caught Marsh bowled Lillee ... 4 of the 95 in Tests). 4 of that team gone now ... Marsh, David Hookes, Gary Gilmour & Max Walker.

RIP Bacchus

Oddly enough I am re reading "Priceless" Rodney Marsh, the Footballers, autobiography right now. Walked into the thread saddened and was somewhat relieved that it wasn't Rodney Marsh the footballer. However RIP to Rodney Marsh the cricketer!

For the rest of his life, the footballer Rodney Marsh is going to hear the words "I thought you were dead? ".

Sad news. He famously once drank 45 cans of beer on a flight from Australia to London.
